Responsibilities for the role may include the following:

  • Managing day-to-day operations of Open Society's short-form video content, from the pitch stage to post-production, ensuring high quality and adherence with Open Society's visual identity guidelines and editorial standards
  • Developing a digital video strategy with the Deputy CCO to advance Open Society issues using different formats and content types, and across a range of distribution mediums
  • Working closely with Communications and other stakeholders to brainstorm and identify opportunities for incorporating video into existing workstreams
  • Tracking timelines, budgets, media, deliverables, releases, contracts, and related paperwork-ensuring that projects follow a standard workflow and are completed on-time and on-budget
  • Shooting, producing, and editing digital video and audio of varying lengths for multiple channels on quick turnaround
  • Overseeing freelance contributors/agency consultants, and negotiating and managing associated contracts, assets (b-roll, music, etc.), licensing, and project plans
  • Assisting production teams with shoot logistics and support

  • Role may also be responsible for direct field or studio production (shooting, lighting, interviewing, editing) for some types of content and breaking news

Preferred Qualifications

  • 6-8 years of experience as a producer in a non-fiction media environment and as a video editor at a digital agency, news organization, or non-profit

  • Experience coordinating all aspects of the production process, including managing the work of partners such as agencies and freelancers
  • A portfolio that shows a range of video-based storytelling projects
  • Strong understanding of project management best practices, including the ability to develop detailed, time-sensitive project plans, specifications, and manage risk
  • Advanced editing in Adobe Premiere and strong working knowledge of Adobe After Effects
  • Expert knowledge of web video standards, codecs, and social media platform specifications
  • A rolodex of connections in the creative industry, including production houses, editors, videographers, and photographers
  • Technical command of cameras, lenses, lighting, sound, and post-production processes
  • Well-versed in conducting interviews and in producing live events and podcasts
  • Ability to interact with cross-departmental groups and all levels of management
  • Excellent communication skills, a meticulous attention to detail, and experience working on multiple projects with quick turnarounds
  • Demonstrated commitment and interest in open society issues
