Position description

The New York Times Research & Development (R&D) team is seeking a technically curious Content Strategist to help document and share details about our experiments through public blog posts and social media.

 

You will be part of a team of engineers, designers, and producers exploring potential journalistic applications unlocked by emerging technologies. You will be responsible for capturing written and visual artifacts during the experimentation process and synthesizing those details into engaging and informative public content aimed at the wider media and technology industries.

 

The team may explore

  • New formats for experiencing news

  • Developing efficiencies for field reporters and the newsroom

  • Discovering new opportunities for reporting and newsgathering

  • Improvement of systems and operations within The Times

 

What you’ll do

  • Work alongside the R&D team members to capture details about the team’s emerging technology explorations and produce short written pieces for tech-savvy public readership

  • Gather information from multiple sources within the team and the broader organization, researching and fact-checking as needed

  • Receive and incorporate edits, working with stakeholders and editors to produce and publish polished, informative pieces on a weekly basis

  • Source visuals to help explain explorations— create diagrams, or collect photo/video assets

  • Coordinate publication schedules across teams

  • Capture content during field tests by traveling with team members to planned news events

 

What you bring

  • Excellent, approachable writing style

  • Skill in visual storytelling: fluency in photography, video and multimedia design as well as ease with reporting, writing, fact-checking, copyediting and other traditional editorial tasks

  • Ability to triangulate feedback from many stakeholders

  • Active engagement with technology and journalism

  • A real passion for The New York Times’s mission
