Position description

Summary:  Strategic Capacity Group (SCG), a non-profit dedicated to building strategic security sector capacity worldwide, seeks a Senior Writer to provide high-level proposal writing and project reporting in fulfillment of SCG’S mission.  In this role, the Senior Writer will work with the SCG development team to review, collaborate on, and write compelling proposals (or portions thereof) in response to grant notices presented by the U.S. government and other donors. S/he will also support project teams to conceptualize, draft, and/or edit key project reporting. SCG seeks to build a team of experienced writers to help capture the impact of our global capacity building mission. 

Work Location

SCG is located in McLean, VA.  The candidate can work on a remote basis but will need to be available for calls, video meetings, or in person if locally-based, to discuss projects. 


Required Qualifications

  1. A Master’s degree (preferably in English), with seven to ten years of recent experience in technical or proposal writing and editing.
  2. Strong analytical and advanced writing abilities, including the proper elements of writing, sentence structure, grammar, punctuation, and formatting in accordance with guidelines established by SCG.
  3. Excellent communication and collaboration skills (whether in person or remote).
  4. Excellent organizational skills, with a keen ability to prioritize and meet tight deadlines.
  5. Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, including usage of advanced document management features such as section/chapter breaks, formatting features, automatic table of contents, hyperlinks, and import/export features.
  6. The ability to edit documents for complete content, logical sequence, and clarity.
