The Keough School of Global Affairs at the University of Notre Dame seeks an Associate Director to provide administrative leadership for the Master of Global Affairs program. The Associate Director, working with the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, the MGA staff, and others, develops and implements an overall enrollment strategy for the MGA, which attracts a highly diverse, international student population; oversees student experience in the program; and manages curricular planning. The Associate Director reports to the School’s Associate Dean for Academic Affairs.
1) Staff Supervision – The Associate Director supervises a team of three full-time staff (Student Services Coordinator, the Admissions and Academic Coordinator, and the Professional Development and Instructional Specialist) and two part-time staff (Writing Skills Coordinator, Quantitative Tutor) who implement MGA program activities. The Associate Director is involved in hiring staff for these positions, facilitates goal setting, manages work schedules, provides feedback, and completes annual performance reviews. The Associate Director also establishes a working environment that encourages teamwork and collaboration.
2) Student Experience – The Associate Director also oversees student experience in the program. This includes coordinating summer contact with admitted students, orientation, and course registration; serving as primary administrative advisor and secondary academic advisor for all students in the MGA program; developing student policies and the program handbook; trouble shooting student problems; managing disciplinary actions and investigations of academic dishonesty allegations; tracking graduation requirements; planning and administrative management of graduation; and overseeing professional and career development efforts by the Professional Development and Instructional Specialist.
3) Enrollment – The Associate Director plays a lead role in developing and implementing an enrollment strategy for the Keough School Master’s program. Working closely with the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, the Director of Communications and Marketing and the MGA staff, the Associate Director will develop recruiting and enrollment goals and propose strategies to attract appropriate students to the Keough School. The strategy will closely align with the overall mission of the Keough School and its academic programs, while also building on Notre Dame’s institutional identity and mission. The Associate Director oversees staff implementation of recruitment and admissions strategies, communicates directly with prospective students, oversees the admissions process, serves on the MGA admissions committee and the financial aid committee, coordinates the selection and awarding of fellowships, and coordinates offers with the Graduate School.
4) Curricular Management – Under the guidance of the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, and with support from the Admissions and Academic Coordinator, the Associate Director manages curricular planning for the MGA. This includes providing administrative support for coordinating faculty teaching assignments, coordinating writing and quantitative support for students, and coordinating student internship activities with the i-Lab and Developing Peacebuilding Practice. The Associate Director works closely with the instructional faculty and concentration directors on curricular issues.
Master’s degree in global or international affairs, public policy, or related field required; at least 5 years of related experience.
Experience in educational programming and curriculum development in higher education; experience in staff supervision and team leadership; experience working in international and cross-cultural settings; effective time management and organizational skills; strong communication skills, both oral and written; flexibility to work in a newly established program; and understanding and commitment to the values and mission of the University of Notre Dame and the Keough School.
