The World Council of Churches (WCC) is seeking a dynamic and experienced General Coordinator to oversee the field-level implementation of its Syria project, focused on safety, inclusive dialogue, and trust-building in conflict-affected communities. The coordinator will play a central role in linking national and local coordinators with the Geneva-based team, ensuring activities remain coherent, responsive, and aligned with project goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate all field-level activities across selected locations in Syria, ensuring timely implementation and consistency with the project’s objectives and operational plan.
  • Supervise national and local coordinators, offering regular guidance, performance monitoring, and logistical support as needed.
  • Serve as the main liaison between field teams and the Geneva office, maintaining clear communication, updating on progress, and flagging challenges or opportunities.
  • Facilitate coordination with local partners, including civil society actors, religious leaders, and field consultants, ensuring inclusive and safe implementation.
  • Participate in periodic strategy meetings, monitoring and evaluation processes, and conflict-sensitive planning.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in project coordination or field management within peacebuilding, humanitarian, or civil society initiatives in Syria.
  • Strong knowledge of the Syrian socio-political and security environment, including the religious landscape and sensitivities around interfaith and community dynamics.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, with the ability to guide and motivate decentralized teams across diverse locations.
  • Well-established networks with religious leaders, civil society actors, and influential community figures in multiple regions of Syria.
  • Ability to engage constructively with governmental actors, including ministers and local authorities, while maintaining the neutrality and independence of the project.
  • Familiarity with dialogue facilitation and negotiation processes and prior experience with Syrian peace initiatives is an asset.
  • Capacity and willingness to travel within Syria and internationally as required for in-person coordination and stakeholder engagement.
  • Excellent communication, reporting, and organizational skills; ability to manage competing priorities under pressure.
  • Fluency in Arabic is required; working knowledge of English and French is strongly preferred.
  • Experience working with faith-based or interreligious networks is a strong advantage.
