Position description

AMP Global Youth is looking for program coordinators for Global Scholar – a summer program focusing on international affairs and social change for high school students. Coordinators oversee learning, logistics and safety. This position would oversee our newly-launched NYC program.

This is a great position for someone interested in global education, foreign policy, leadership, social change and youth development. Successful candidates will have experience leading trips, programs, camps and/or activities serving high school students. The ideal candidate will also have formal or informal experience facilitating, teaching and/or training groups, as well as strong familiarity with global issues, either through education or work experience. Note: most sessions are led by speakers or trainers, so while the Coordinator is welcome to incorporate their expertise and experiences into the program they will ultimately play a guiding / facilitation role.

Our parent organization AMP Global Youth was founded in 2002 by students at Yale with the goal of helping students explore the US role in the world following 9/11.

This is a one-time, three-week contract position from July 8-26.

Responsibilities include:

  • Overseeing one three-week sessions for high school students, including learning, safety and logistics.
  • Helping students absorb, reflect and operationalize learning. Coordinator will help connect the dots between readings, speakers and assignments through daily wrap-up conversations, small-group breakouts, informally checking in with students, and more. Coordinator will also help students conceive and plan a final project that applies all they've learned during the three-week experience.
  • Serving as mentor for high school students participating in the program, who are all selected through a competitive process and who are eager to pursue careers in social change.
  • Overseeing logistics and movement of the group, including making sure the space is set up, helping the group get to/from meetings throughout the city on time, and making sure all paperwork and evaluations are completed.
  • Serving as connector and energizer for the group, with an eye towards helping participants engage, have fun, and find their voice around issues they care about.

  • Experience overseeing student groups, trips, camps, conferences or equivalent of young people, for example as a teacher, trainer, camp counselor, RA, etc.
  • Experience / comfort handling event logistics, including speakers, meals, and facilities.
  • Enough experience with global issues and advocacy to lead group discussions on these topics.
  • Excellent personal and communications skills. Coordinator must be flexible, patient, and able to think quickly on their feet.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Fun and willing to serve as mentor to very excited young leaders.

Hours, Pay and Benefits: This is a one-time, contract position for three weeks in the month of July (July 8-26), and includes 3 days training prior to the start of the program (timing flexible). Salary will depend on experience, and is roughly equivalent to $22-$24/hour.
