Position description

TACD is a network of more than 70 consumer and digital rights organisations based in the EU, the US and the UK. Its mission is to ensure that the transatlantic relationship promotes consumer welfare on both sides of the Atlantic and is well informed about the implications of policy decisions on consumers. TACD is hosted by BEUC, the European Consumer Organisation.

TACD is currently looking for a Brussels-based Digital Policy Assistant, a junior role to support TACD’s work on digital policy and e-commerce.

The tasks of the position will include:

Under the supervision of the TACD director, the jobholder will contribute to the following activities:

      • Assist in coordinating TACD’s digital and online marketplaces workstreams. This includes organizing calls with TACD members taking notes and drafting minutes. It also involves coordinating policy documents: drafting material and liaising with members;
      • Monitor TACD members’ websites and publications on digital and e-commerce topics;
      • More specifically, support TACD’s work on files related to digital including data protection and privacy, AI, digital fairness, responsibility of online marketplaces and product safety;
      • Assist the team to coordinate the publication of a report on e-commerce (e.g. selecting a provider, gathering members input, supporting the preparation of the communication materials);
      • Support the team in organizing events (e.g. events, roundtables and meetings);
      • Contribute to the reporting of activities to members, notably in the newsletter, and external stakeholders;
      • Tasks may evolve according to the development of the team and its activities.

The main qualifications we are looking for are:

      • A university degree in international relations, political science, public policy, digital policy or similar academic studies;
      • Relevant experience of 1+ year in a similar environment (NGO, institution, trade association, law firm);
      • An interest in working on digital policy and e-commerce;
      • Comprehension and interests in U.S., EU and UK affairs and institutions;
      • Excellent writing and presentation skills in English are essential;
      • A working knowledge of the EU and/or U.S. institutions and legislative process would be an advantage;
      • A proven ability to understand, appreciate and explain the technical issues which arise in the transatlantic relationship with digital and e-commerce;
      • A proven interest in understanding, appreciating and articulating consumer interests in the digital and e-commerce sectors;
      • Ability to work well with people from diverse backgrounds;
      • Team player and well-organised.

TACD is hosted by BEUC, the European Consumer Organisation, based in Brussels. The policy assistant would work for the TACD network, under a BEUC contract, and would benefit from the same benefits as any other BEUC employees:

      • A multidisciplinary and multicultural working environment within a network dedicated to promoting consumer interests and digital rights;
      • A full-time 12-month fixed-term contract with a competitive salary package (salary, fringe benefits, extra-legal paid leave, flexible working hours) and the potential to be renewed;
      • A gross monthly salary in the indicative range of 3.448€ and 4.113€ gross, depending on experience.

Location: As our contracts are subject to Belgian law, candidates must be committed to official registration in Belgium and working from our Brussels office. We offer teleworking possibilities from home or abroad, subject to our remote working policy and organisational needs.
