Position description

Internal staff (Global Lead - End Sex Trafficking, Programme Officer - End Sex Trafficking, Global Director or Programmes, Regional Directors, Communications and MERL); External (technology companies, tech for good platforms, and CSOs and law firms working on digital rights, technology regulation and ethics, human rights and the internet and feminist technology, as well as governments, international and regional bodies) 

 

Role Specification

The role will work to advance Equality Now’s campaign to end online sexual exploitation and abuse of women, girls, and other vulnerable people.

Specifically, the role will involve:

Research

  • Keeping Equality Now up to date on emerging technological issues such as developments, trends and thinking relevant to online sexual exploitation;
  • Keeping abreast of emerging laws and policies at national, regional and international levels relevant to online sexual exploitation, with a specific focus on those relating to technology regulation and ethics, digital rights, and human rights and the internet;

Analysis and Thought Leadership

  • Providing human rights based gendered analysis and critical thinking on the implications of the emerging issues, and laws and policies, as well as recommendations to inform Equality Now’s legal and policy advocacy; 
  • Contributing to the development and implementation of Equality Now’s legal and policy advocacy strategies at national, regional, and international levels;
  • Producing legal and policy research and advocacy products (e.g. policy briefs, short reports, blogs, legal submissions etc.) for diverse audiences;
  • Presenting ideas and concepts to different audiences in compelling ways

Movement Building and Collaboration

  • Leading and supporting the development of strategic and mutually beneficial partnerships with a diverse range of stakeholders specifically targeting technology companies, tech for good platforms, and CSOs and law firms working on technology regulation and ethics, digital rights and feminist technology; 
  • Facilitating Equality Now’s engagement with the range of stakeholders;
  • Working in a multidisciplinary and multicultural team and contributing to activities across the campaign in support of our goal to end sexual exploitation and abuse of vulnerable people and ensure that laws and technology work for them.

Person Specification

  • An advanced degree in Law with specialisation in digital rights/ information technology law and the intersection with women’s and or human rights
  • Minimum 3 years of professional experience in digital law and rights, and/or human rights and the internet
  • Experience in addressing online child sexual exploitation, women’s rights and or international law is an added advantage
  • Experience in advocacy at the national, regional, and international levels
  • Experience in building and maintaining networks and partnerships, coalitions, and movements
  • Excellent research, writing and communication skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to human rights with a focus on women’s human rights and gender equality
  • Strong organisation and planning skills with a drive for results, outcomes, and impact
  • Experience in monitoring, evaluation, and learning
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work under pressure in a multicultural environment
  • Ability to work as part of a team and across teams and collaborate respectfully to achieve shared goals
