Task 1: Proactive Photo Gathering A robust pipeline of high-quality, field-sourced visual assets supporting storytelling, campaign visibility, and global engagement efforts. Task 2: Create and Manage the UNSDG Photo Database A well-structured and searchable photo repository that streamlines editorial workflows and improves access to campaign-aligned visual content across the system. Task 3: Boost Social Media Engagement and Storytelling A portfolio of engaging, human-centered digital content and visual storytelling products that amplify UNSDG priorities and increase reach across social platforms. Task 4: Technical Support and Website Maintenance A reliable, accessible, and updated web presence for DCO with seamless integration of key platforms and compliance with technical and editorial standards.

This position is located within the Communications and Results Reporting Section (CRRS) of the United Nations Development Coordination Office (DCO) Headquarters in New York. In its resolution A/RES/72/279 (https://undocs.org/A/RES/72/279), the United Nations General Assembly endorsed the transformation of DCO as a stand-alone coordination office within the United Nations Secretariat. The new DCO assumes managerial and oversight functions of the Resident Coordinator system (RCS) under the collective ownership of the members of the United Nations Sustainable Development Group (UNSDG). The position reports to the Digital Strategist working hand-in-hand with the Content Management Officer and Social Media Officer and is under the overall supervision of the Chief of CRRS. Regular coordination meetings and feedback loops will be established to align priorities with strategic messaging goals and editorial planning. This will enable a more creative, multimedia approach to impact storytelling - spotlighting the SDGs, the Pact for the Future, and climate action - while making better use of the suite of digital platforms supported by DCO and the UNSDG social media channels, with the potential to significantly expand reach and audience engagement in line with UN 2.0. Skills in the ethical and responsible use of AI for communications - aligned with UN values and standards - are highly desirable and will be encouraged as part of this evolving approach. The consultant will support the next phase of operationalizing DCO-backed communications and digital platforms, including photo content development, storytelling, social media engagement, and platform maintenance aligned with DCO 2.0. Task 1: Proactive Photo Gathering • Proactively collect and curate high-quality visual assets (photos, illustrations, etc.) from UN country teams (UNCTs), UN agencies (UNSDG members), and headquarters-- ensuring all clearances, protocols, and guidance are followed. Ensure that all visuals align with campaign priorities and thematic narratives, supporting the visibility goals of the UNSDG and DCO. • Engage regularly with field colleagues to encourage timely, high-impact photo submissions that highlight key campaigns, human-centered storytelling, and country-level results. Task 2: Create and Manage the UNSDG Photo Database • Create, maintain and organize the central photo and multimedia asset repository to facilitate easy access and strategic use by the CRRS team and partners. • Tag, catalog, and archive photo content by country, theme, and campaign, ensuring quality standards and consent requirements are met. • Coordinate quality assurance, and metadata accuracy for the photo library to support editorial workflows and digital content production. Task 3: Boost Social Media Engagement and Storytelling • Develop and deliver compelling, human-centered digital content—including social media posts, photo stories, and short videos—that align with UNSDG messaging and campaign priorities. • Support the planning, production, and timely rollout of multimedia assets to boost visibility and engagement across key social media platforms. • Contribute to the monitoring of engagement trends and campaign performance, helping to refine content strategies based on data-driven insights. Task 4: Technical Support and Website Maintenance • Provide technical support and contribute to ongoing maintenance of the UNSDG and DCO websites, as needed. • Support content updates, migration, and integration of digital tools such as UN INFO and e-reports, ensuring alignment with accessibility, SEO, and multilingual standards. • Assist with backend tasks including content uploads, stakeholder coordination (internal and external), and upkeep of governance frameworks and collaboration tools. • Contribute to quality assurance for platform enhancements, ensuring full compliance with UN standards on security, accessibility, and multilingual delivery. • Monitor KPIs and analyze digital engagement trends to generate actionable insights that strengthen the reach, functionality, and impact of global digital platforms.
