Duties: Conceives, plans, and implements an annual program of outreach activities to European publics and EU officials to build strong transatlantic ties and U.S.-EU cooperation on U.S. Government (USG) political, security, and economic goals. Manages the U.S. Mission to the EU (USEU) grants program in support of the Mission’s Strategic Plan. Establishes and maintains U.S. partnerships with EU institutions and public-private partnerships with U.S. and European think tanks and academic institutions to maximize program reach and resources.
Qualifications and Evaluations
Education: University degree in the liberal arts.
EXPERIENCE: Four years of progressively responsible experience in managing programs or in a field related to USEU Mission goals.
JOB KNOWLEDGE: Excellent knowledge of European Union organization, institutions, functions, key personalities, and solid grasp of EU policies that affect U.S.-EU relations are essential. Incumbent must also be familiar with American government institutions, U.S. society, and U.S. culture.
LANGUAGE: Level 4 (Fluent) Speaking/Reading/Writing of English and another European language is
SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Personal and professional qualities to develop and productively maintain access to high-level contacts in the EU and its national representations, Think Tanks, and transnational educational and research organizations. Ability to work across many USG sections and agencies and the intellectual skills to manage programs in their substantive work areas. Flexibility and time management to handle a variety of projects simultaneously. Ability to understand and oversee highly technical and frequently changing elements of USG grants management. Ability to work with Washington and USEU management offices in resource management of grants and other program budgets.
